Relationships beat repetition

Beginner strategy

Use a practical opening plan to grow population without collapsing food, power, harmony, or the treasury.

Build support before a skyline

Houses make the most visible number rise, but every resident consumes food and power. Leave room for one farm and one energy source before committing to the fourth house.

Spend central tiles on connections

A center tile can reach four neighbors. Parks, markets, schools, hospitals, water towers, and transit hubs gain more from those positions than an isolated producer does.

Use the preview as a decision tool

Do not place first and diagnose later. Compare the before-and-after reserves, count green and red links, and cancel when a placement solves one shortage by creating another.

  • Low food: farm on fertile ground or connect a food district.
  • Low power: add energy away from housing, or pursue clean energy.
  • Low harmony: connect homes to parks and civic services.
  • Low gold: stop expanding until production pulses recover the treasury.
